Special Issue Information

The growing demand for resilient infrastructure, sustainable urban development, and effective geohazard mitigation has highlighted the critical role of seismic investigation in characterizing subsurface conditions and estimating geotechnical properties. Recent advances in seismic acquisition, data processing, imaging, inversion, and artificial intelligence have significantly improved the accuracy, resolution, and efficiency of engineering seismic investigations, enabling a wide range of applications in geotechnical engineering, infrastructure assessment, and environmental studies.

This Special Issue aims to provide an international forum for the publication of high-quality original research and review articles that present innovative methodologies, emerging technologies, and practical applications of engineering seismic investigations for site characterization and geotechnical parameter assessment. Contributions from researchers and practitioners in geophysics, seismology, geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, engineering geology, and computational geoscience are warmly welcomed.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  1. Seismic methods for site characterization, including surface-wave, refraction, reflection, crosshole, downhole, and borehole techniques.
  2. Estimation of geotechnical and rock mechanical properties using seismic methods.
  3. Seismic imaging, inversion, and quantitative interpretation for engineering applications.
  4. Integrated seismic, geophysical, geological, and geotechnical site investigations.
  5. Advanced seismic data processing, machine learning, and AI-assisted interpretation.
  6. Seismic investigation and monitoring of geohazards, including liquefaction, landslides, sinkholes, fault zones, and subsurface cavities.
  7. Engineering applications of seismic methods for transportation infrastructure, underground construction, foundations, tunnels, dams, levees, and offshore structures.
  8. Full-wavefield seismic modeling, simulation, and digital twin technologies for infrastructure assessment.
  9. Time-lapse and monitoring applications using seismic methods for infrastructure health monitoring and environmental change detection.
  10. Emerging seismic sensing technologies, including distributed acoustic sensing (DAS), non-contact seismic measurements, and autonomous monitoring systems.
